Contextual Review

In the second part of product design and ceramics, I got in touch with the craftsmanship of ceramics and learned about Kintsukuroi. Kintsukuroi is an ancient porcelain restoration method that fills the broken gaps of vessels with glue and gold foil and turns out the natural and quiet beauty of the new looks of vessels. As a philosophy, it regards damaging and repair as part of the object's history rather than something to conceal, which subtly attracts me. I am passionate about different crafts and want to try more in the future. I believe this kind of knowledge and skills is crucial to help designers make their idea come true and create more diverse works.

In the Utility project, I need to make a product for Junbo. He is my client. He gave me some information about himself. And I also ask him some question about some specific habits. He said he prefer eat something during thinking. He often chooses to eat some chocolate and chewing gum. I did some research about chewing during thinking. Generally speaking, chewing uses the brain to function. When a person is chewing, the circulation of blood in the head will speed up, which will increase the oxygen supply to the brain, thus making people more "smart". During the idea development I still need to consider user needs. I think my concept during utility is very novel. I think a good concept can make the project deeper. And during this period I didn't do the model making very well. Because I didn't buy the materials on time. I only can use existing material. Next time I will buy materials in advance. I think I need to improve my idea development part. And my primary research also needs to be improved.

When I know our project is a personal video. I was very excited. I quickly started to prepare the idea for the video and did a lot of research. Clips and videos from some vloggers. I want to make a unique video that doesn't introduce my own features or advantages too much. Because I think there is a lot of subjective bias when a person introduces himself. So I shared a lot of my opinions in the video.Not only about design, but also a lot of ideas about life. In the middle, I changed a lot of materials and music, and also listened to a lot of suggestions from the teacher about the length and content of the video. In the end, it was uploaded with a better effect.

In the circular project, I learned from the experience in Utility. I watched a movie called detachment. I have a deep understanding of this movie. The male protagonist will make many people in desperate situations try to keep a diary. Today, it is indeed rare to record one's life with a pen on a daily basis. So I wanted to get people to start journaling in some way. Pencil as time record. The cover of the book is the container of time, which is used to hold the sawdust that has been cut off.

In the experience city project. I try to improve the incomplete online graveyard platforms on the market. Such a system allows people to express their thoughts about their loved ones without being limited. Anytime, anywhere, you can even use Vr technology to accurately restore the appearance of the deceased. to realize the idea of meeting the old man. For the first time, I tried to use ai this software to start making software pages. In the middle, I also referred to many mature UI designs on the market. I was pleasantly surprised by the final effect, and I thought it was a good experience.

Although out there are mostly commercial and functional product design works today, I do believe good design, no matter in what mediums, is a work that can deliver designers' thoughts, spirits, and experiments along his journey, also come with excellent functionality that resonates with users both emotionally and physically. Therefore, critical design interests me because it questions the limited emotional and psychological experience most ordinary design brings.

In my understanding, industrial design covers the areas of product design, transportation design, furniture design, medical equipment design, and so on. It requires a wide range of interdisciplinary skills and development stages to transfer an initial idea to a finished product. I look forward to finding out society's needs and creating innovative solutions that will make our world aesthetically look better and function better. What is even better is that I can express my views and opinions via my critical design works.
